Karya Wahana Sentosa (KWaS), a company located in Yogyakarta, produces kitchenware interior furniture for hotels, resorts, public areas, restaurants, hospitals, universities and export furniture. Our strength is in the use of eco label wood, and product design that suits customer needs. And everything is done by a solid team. Since 2005 we have joined with WWF Indonesia’s Nusa Hijau program and has used eco label wood The wood material is sourced from legally managed and sustainable forests. We are committed to always using legal and sustainable wood in the long term.

CBI

CBI (Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries from the Netherlands), in September 2001 KWaS joined the program how to enter the European market. CBI fully supported us for 5 years in providing design development training. CBI also included KWaS in the international exhibition Salone Intenazionale Del Mobile in Milan,in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

IFC – PENSA

A program under the International Finance Corporation, a subsidiary of the World Bank in the Sustainable Wood Program in March 2005. The purpose of this program is to develop and use acacia mangium wood as an alternative material including providing technical assistance of quality and production processes. In this program KWaS is attend in the Singapore Fair / IFFS Exhibition in 3 years.

AusAID

AusAID, in May 2006 the company invited in the KWaS Livelihood Productivity Program, which was carried out by a team from PPMFEB UGM and Quality Trade Indonesia (a Dutch company for quality improvement). In this program KwaS received grants for rebuilding more adequate production facilities after the 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake.

SENADA

USAID & SIPPO (Swiss Import Promotion Program) in 2008 and 2009 to participate in the IMM furniture exhibition, Cologne, Germany. Participation in this program was because KWaS won the competition, The Sustainable Home Furnishing Design Competition 2007.

NVI

(New Venture Indonesia) is part of the WRI-World Resources Institute, Washington, United States. In October 2009 the company received the Best Finalist In Investor Forum award2009 of NVI 2009. The company was invited by E + Co and New Ventures – World Resources Institute in The Annual Green Global Scholarship to attend a Seminar in Costa Rica Latin America. The seminar runs from 19-23 July at INCAE Business Scholl, La Garita de Alajuela.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)

is a non-profit organization /organization founded by several elements (such as: the international community) who care about forest sustainability around the world and make FSC CoC standards which aim to protect forests from damage. Meanwhile, CoC (Chain of Custody) /chain of custody system) is a system that regulates a continuous series of forest products, transportation, distribution and processing to become final products. KWaS got CoC-FSC certificate in March 2009 with a certificate number SCS-COC-005073. The certificate category is “FSC 100%” products.

JRF (Java Reconstruction Fund)

The JRF (Java Reconstruction Fund), which in its implementation was managed by GTZ (GIZ) in 2010 to help rebuild and improve the living conditions of earthquake-affected communities in Java (Yogyakarta, West Java and Central Java). KWaS was invited to participate in the IFFINA Jakarta exhibition in March 2011.• Declaration of the REDD + Task Force 27 November 2012 and a banquet and hospitality with Bp. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Ms. Mari Pangestu and the Crown Prince of Norway, Haakon Magnus and accompanied by a delegation from the Norwegian Kingdom.

The Multistake Holder Forestry Program (MFP) is a collaboration program between the ministry of forestry, the Indonesian government and UKaid from the Department for International Development (DFID). This program helps KWaS to obtain certificates SVLK. In 2012, KWaS got the SVLK certificate with register no. 824 303 120010.SVLK is a guarantee system for the compliance of permit holders in fulfilling obligations for logging / harvesting, transporting, processing and marketing forest timber, as the foundation for the success of sustainable forest management.

Satgas REDD+

The REDD + Task Force under UKP4 (Presidential Unit for Development Supervision and Control) requested the participation of the leadership The company talked about the green furniture business experience involving the role of community forests in the workshop “The Possibility of REDD + on Community Managed Lands: Reducing Emission and Poverty while Safeguarding Environmental Integrity Through Community Based Sustainable Forest Management” at 7 November 2012.

Community development

Since 2009, the company has been actively providing regular monthly funds for community and youth activities around the factory. In addition to this, the company initiated the formation of “Bungas Micro Finance” (BMF). Business activities managed by BMF are the management of wood waste and wood shavings that are collected every day from KWaS factory activities. The waste is sold to be used as BMF capital. BMF income is obtained from interest on loans without collateral for women’s productive activities (women entrepreneurs at the village level). The interest on these loans is much cheaper than the interest rates on loans from illegal banks operating around our markets and local villages.

In an effort to help educate the nation, in 2005 the company participated by supporting the construction of the Dharma Rena Kindergarten (TK) building which is located near the Company. This TK consists of 2 classes with a student capacity of around 30 people per class. TK Dharma Rena students come from Bungas village and its surroundings.
